Queuing Will be History Soon, with Bulk SMS Messaging

June 11, 2010

Bulk SMS text messaging can help you thin long queues and keep customers happy while they wait. Here’s what you can do to make queuing a thing of the past.

Whether you’re at a bank, a favourite restaurant, a club or even at the movies, one thing they all have in common is that you more often than not have to queue. If it’s true for you, then it’s true for your customers, too. What would happen, however, if you could make queuing a thing of the past? Possibilities include:

  • An increase in customers
  • Improved customer service
  • A resulting increase in customer loyalty
  • Increased efficiency

Oh, and a bunch of unhappy competitors, most probably. But the point is that, by using bulk SMS text messaging, you’re using the best of a technology (the mobile phone) that’s…

  • Always carried
  • Always on
  • Personal ‘in my pocket’ communication for your customers

That being said, let’s examine how businesses can reduce queue sizes using bulk SMS text messaging. Perhaps the very first queue-reduction implementation one would consider is to allow customers to send an SMS to a short code, after which they’ll receive a reply with a unique number (indicating their position in the queue). A couple of minutes before their number is up, they can be texted informing them that they’ll have to make their way to your premises.

This will allow them to run an errand or two, thereby getting more done.

Another possible implementation of bulk SMS text messaging  to reduce queue sizes is to simply allow customers to book via text messaging. This comes in handy especially where restaurants, clubs and the like are concerned, as customers now only have to show the screens of their mobile phones (displaying their booking) for immediate entry, thereby eliminating waiting and having a much more enjoyable experience.

While the above illustrates only a few examples of how bulk SMS text messaging can reduce queue sizes and keep customers happy, it should be enough to get the creativity flowing.
